SELF IMPROVEMENT

Another week gone by, Grab your drink; it’s time to catch up. If we were sipping coffee together I would tell you in the amazement that surfing internet and reading blogs have become my most favorite pastime. Once a while surfing the Google I came across this example from one blog. Here goes the example written by Dr. Marvin Marshall;

A woman having lunch at a small café was seated next to a family celebrating their son’s basketball game. Their conversation was so lively that the woman joined in. “You must have been on the winning team,” she said.

The kid grinned from ear to ear, “No, we lost by 20 points. The other team had a killer defense. We were only able to make one basket.”

“Did you make the basket?” she asked.

With his mouth filled with cake and ice cream, the boy shook his head, “No.”

His father reached across the table to give him a high five. His mother hugged him and said, “You were awesome.”

The woman at the next table rubbed her chin.

The boy looked at the confused woman and said, “At last week’s game, I took nine shots but they all fell short of the basket. This week I took eight shots and three of them hit the rim! Dad says I’m making progress.”

A thought popped up in my mind that we all are that little boy, and we can also try to improve ourselves every day. Life is unpredictable and often harsh, but whatever life throws us, we can handle it, if we just try to be a little better each day than we were the day before. Give me five minutes of your time, and I will convince you why self-improvement is important.

 So, what is self-improvement?

Personal growth or self-improvement is the continuous process of understanding and discovering oneself and trying to identify their own true value. Personal growth has a profound effect on every single aspect of our life. As we grow on a personal level, we begin to feel more passionate about life in general. Self- improvement provides us with the opportunity to become the best possible version of ourselves.

Why self-improvement?

One of the best things about life is that we never have to stop learning. There are always new skills to learn and techniques for us to adopt. When you look at the most successful people in the world, they understand this. The best entrepreneurs in the world don’t act like they know everything. They all understand the fact that they have to continuously learn to be successful.

For us to live life to the fullest, we must continually look for ways to improve. Learning is tough and can be frustrating. When we are looking to learn as much as possible, there’s less of a chance that we will come off as arrogant. True charmers don’t make themselves look smart, they make others look smart. And when people see that you are trying to learn from them, it makes liking you that much easier.

Are you ready to accept your flaws?

It is very important in our life that we discover our own self, and by discovering one’s own self I mean analyzing oneself and accepting the flaws. Self-improvement can only begin when we know our true self. Remember that without self-awareness, personal development simply can’t occur. This is because you have to be aware of where you currently stand and where you can improve the skills required for you to grow. By introspection one can know one’s capabilities, weakness and inabilities. One can overcome his inabilities and make full use of his abilities for self-improvement.

Are you ready to change yourself?

After you’ve figured out what the skills or abilities you require to realize your ambitions, you need to start thinking about how you can change your life for the better by improving them. People are stuck in their comfort zone and they don’t want to step out of it, but being stuck in at a place won’t bring you growth, stepping out of your comfort zone helps you face your fears, take risks and face challenges, you become stronger and better versions of yourselves. I read this sentence somewhere and it is very true “people often fear change but it is the only thing that brings progress”.

It is about taking time and making a commitment to invest in your greatest resource that is you yourself. When you realize your own value the results are amazing.

How to improve yourself?

Some days, it will be easier than others, but if we just put forth the tiniest of effort, maybe give some change to someone less fortunate, or smile when you don’t feel like it, things will get better.  By taking things one day at a time, with tiny improvements, you can get through anything life throws at you.

I try to apply this principle in my own life, successfully at times and not so successfully at others. This must not be done by imitating others but through hard work and sincere efforts.

We all have the same twenty-four hours, so what’s your excuse? Hustle! No pain, no gain! Stop playing small. Take massive action, go all-in. They’re crushing it, why aren’t you? The steps to success are quick, easy, and proven. Do whatever it takes. You miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take. The universe loves speed.

But you must not forget to love yourself while you’re on the mission of self-improvement.

Loving yourself is equally important.
